Samsung and Google Cloud are collaborating to bring generative AI capabilities to Samsung’s home robot, Ballie. The release of the robot was teased at CES in January, it is expected to hit U.S. shelves this summer. Pre-registration to purchase the rolling home robot is now open on Samsung’s website.

Samsung has unveiled its "home AI companion," Ballie, a small wheeled robot initially conceptualized for home chores such as lighting control, setting alarms, and managing user calendars. With its integration with Google Gemini, Samsung revealed that Ballie is now able to have smooth, conversational interactions with users, varying its response to complete requests in real-time.

By merging Gemini’s ability to handle multiple data types with Samsung’s language models, Ballie can process audio, voice, and visual inputs from its surroundings. Samsung noted that these advancements allow Ballie to go beyond basic chores, offering personalized guidance on topics ranging from fashion to health and wellness. For instance, Samsung explained, “If a user says, ‘I’m feeling exhausted today,’ Ballie could leverage Gemini’s connection to Google Search to provide customized suggestions for boosting energy.” Yongjae Kim, Samsung’s executive vice president of the visual display business, described the collaboration as “transforming the role of AI in homes.”

“By pairing Gemini’s powerful multimodal reasoning with Samsung’s AI capabilities in Ballie, we’re leveraging the power of open collaboration to unlock a new era of personalized AI companion — one that moves with users, anticipates their needs and interacts in more dynamic and meaningful ways than ever before,” he added.
