The growing trend of fiberizing telecom towers will lead to approximately 100,000 new job openings. As of now, there are over 500,000 fiber technicians in India due to the rapid growth of fiber optic networks to aid in the development of 4G, 5G, and broadband projects nationwide, Subburathinam said.

"The annual growth rate of employment in the fiber optic technician segment is largely driven by the rapid expansion of broadband and 5G networks in India. As the government and telecom operators focus on expanding fiber infrastructure, the demand for fiber technicians is expected to grow significantly," he said.

He observed that by the year 2030, 5G technology is projected to hit its maximum potential, providing faster speeds, reduced delays, and improved connectivity.

The India Telecom Market is projected to be worth USD 48.61 billion in 2024, with a forecasted growth to USD 76.16 billion by 2029, growing at a rate of 9.40 percent annually. As of 2023, approximately 7,00,000 kilometers of optical fiber cable has been installed nationwide, playing a crucial role in enhancing digital infrastructure expansion.

He stated that fiber technicians work in telecommunications, IT, construction, and manufacturing industries, primarily in network expansion and infrastructure setup in urban and rural areas.

Additionally, Subburathinam mentioned that roles such as Fiber engineers, Splicers, Fiber Termination equipment technicians, Installation and Repair, Fault Resolution Team, Fiber Cellsite engineers, and Field Technicians are experiencing substantial growth because of the increasing telecom infrastructure and the rollout of 5G services.
